Move in
So it’s 6th July 2016 and I just got home from work. I left early as Becke has been in pain and leaking since a new fistula has developed. We’re truly at a loss. I walked into the apartment and told her she had two choices, she can go to WakeMed Cary or Duke Hospital. She cried and pleaded with me she didn’t want to go and begged me to stay home, but ultimately I knew something was wrong. So I made the decision and we went to Duke. I had already taken the following day off so this way I could focus on her.
I had never been to Duke at this point and when we got there, I must say, free Valet parking for emergency room is really awesome. Kudos to Duke University for that. So we walk in the security guard area and walk into the lobby and check in. We waited about 10 minutes before triage saw us. After we explained why we were there and they did vitals they took us directly to the back and got us into a nice room. After a few hours of nurses and doctors coming in and doing some vitals and asking symptoms and etc that I had started a headache coming on. I finally asked around 11pm if they would be admitting her and sure enough we got the transfer orders to her room on the 2nd floor.
About a week prior to this we were in a small fender bender where an elderly gentleman had backed into our car as we were backed out of our parking spot. Both parties were at fault and no injuries or serious damage other than plastic tail lights and bumpers. So after USAA set us up with a rental and the body shop, I was hoping for a Jeep Grand Cherokee ( I badly want one ) and did we get it, Of course not! Instead all they had at the moment was a 2016 Dodge Ram crew cab. Fore the record, I hate anything larger than most SUVs, especially big giant trucks. Anything larger than a standard pick up is unnecessary inside of a city. But that’s just me.

Well Becke is now back in the hospital, and in three days I am supposed to pick up our keys and sign the lease. So here it is, Saturday 9th of July and I go to the Carolina Hurricanes Equipment sale, buy some game used hockey sticks and game worn jerseys and head back home. I drive over and pick up the keys and sign the lease and then head over to the new place to turn on the breakers and set the AC. Later that day, I pickup Damien from a week long vacation with a friend in Myrtle Beach. Once we get to the old apartment pack up boxes and such and start moving. Just he and I, packed up everything and moved it all in that big ass truck. Now I will admit it was nice having the truck because I didn’t have to rent a U-Haul, but I still hate large trucks. After 3 days we had moved the whole apartment by ourselves and since this started on Saturday, we had no couches, furniture other than my bed and a dresser.

Monday, I had off work as our furniture was being delivered as was our tv and internet being installed. On Tuesday more deliveries and such. By Friday everything was officially moved, old placed was cleaned and painted and just like that we had now moved into our new home.

Unfortunately Jesse was still down at my Mom’s, so he wouldn’t see his room for another month and poor Damien had to use moving blankets and a matress topper as a bed until his brother came home when my mom gave us the bed room sets for both boys.
Today is Wednesday, 21st September, and Becke is still at Duke Hospital in Durham. She has yet to see our new home. I have given her a few tours via FaceTime but she isn’t home yet, and it’s sure missing her spirit. Maybe soon I’ll have the place clean and fully unpacked, then again do we ever really unpack everything from anytime we move?
